Charles Pearce has been a photographer for most of his life. His first published images appeared in 1963 in a church publication. He is a retired professor of mass communications, having taught advertising design, copywriting, visual communication and photography over a 32-year academic career. His primary focus (pun intended) is in landscape photography.
His images have been accepted for several juried exhibits and appear in private collections around the world. His photographs have been selected for publication in greeting cards, web sites and promotional materials.
He is fortunate to live in Manhattan, Kansas which is home of Kansas State University and its Konza Prairie Biological Research Station. Owned by the Nature Conservancy and leased to the university, Konza Prairie is one of the last stands of native tallgrass prairie that used to stretch from Canada to Texas. Charles has been a docent on Konza since 2010 and has photographed it extensively throughout the seasons and the years.
Since his retirement in 2012, Charles has been fortunate to take one or two photo safaris a year concentrating primarily on the Western United States, namely, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Washington, Montana, and Idaho, in addition to Kansas; as well as Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama back east.
He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Alabama, a Master of Arts in Communications, also from the University of Alabama, and, the Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
He is ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Church and is retired from active ministry.
